Today I signed up with the Gold membership at Audiogalaxy, you know the music file sharing place. I did it because I spend a lot of time listening to music and trying to find new fresh tones that would make me shiver. I also did it because I found the free Audiogalaxy membership not very good. I mean the free membership gives you this terrible advertising program from Gain (if you click the link; look at that LONG domain name). This Gain thing gives you pop up commercial's and all kinds of things that run over your browser and slows it all down. They free package also included a Stop Pop Up program that leaves you to click a yes or no red stop sign every time there is a pop up. Eventually the whole browser just froze itself when I clicked to get a new window. How shitty. I mean why did it include this pop up stopper, I thought they were going to get payed for running the adverts?. I thought the whole thing was very confusing. I didn't know if was meant to fight against the pop ups or the Pop Up Stopper, both were just as irritating.
When I payed for the Audiogalaxy, two dollars a month, I only got the download Satellite and it was a big change. I used to really love Napster when it was out here and I used it all the time. Now I find Audiogalaxy ten times better than Napster though. I mean, in Audiogalaxy you get to have all your files in a member page and there are groups and message boards too. It's also easier to do a search I think.
I do understand the aggressions towards these kinds of programs though, but I dont think they are going to be able to control it. Personally I dont feel that I steal from the artists, because I usually buy the music I like on CD's. I most of all use these programs to discover new things. I would be more than happy to pay for programs like Napster, a small amount and be able to buy CD's trough them. It's very different to search for music on the net, because it's so much bigger than your local store. I think musicians should use it for their benefit and put it out here and work with the people that run these file programs.
